Welcome to The Parrot UniversityWelcome to the official The Parrot University Website! The Parrot University is your source for detailed, scientifically researched, and accessible information for pet bird owners. We have been studying parrots and their domestication for over twenty years. Already the University has produced over 1000 pages of information, some of which can be found on this site. More than two decades ago, Steve Hartman, founder of The Parrot University realized that in order to produce quality information, parrots would need to be observed and worked with in several settings: their natural environment, a semi-natural captive environment, and the pet environment. Allowing the birds to thrive in the wild and in captive environments required leaving all of the birds flighted. Experience with 2,800 flighted parrots since 1984 has revealed a great deal regarding the importance of flight on the mental and physical health of pet birds. This has led to the development of products like The AVIATOR Harness, The FLIGHT Line, The YARD Perch and the DVD ‘Flight is Fundamental.’ The Parrot University is in the process of producing a series of six books and fourteen DVDs for pet bird owners, breeders, and veterinarians. As each book and DVD is completed, you will be able to access the information through this site and in many stores around the world. Because of copyright regulations, we are restricted on what we can publish on this site prior to the release of the books and videos. Check back monthly for additional articles. We encourage feedback and questions from readers. Whether you are having difficulty with your first parrot or are an expert aviculturalist, we want to hear from you!
